Streaming and transcoding, built for performance: inside our Scalstrm partnership

Introduction

Most viewers will never notice it when streaming works well. That’s the point. But behind every smooth live match, every instant playback, and every “it just works” moment, there’s an infrastructure stack that has to perform under pressure every single day.

That’s exactly where our partnership with Scalstrm comes in. What started as a quick catch-up between familiar faces quickly turned into a real-world rollout, a first production deployment, and eventually a streaming foundation that’s now scaling across multiple Hypersolid clients.

To unpack how that journey took shape and what comes next, we spoke with Dominique Vosters, Business Development & Sales Director at Scalstrm, who has been closely involved in the partnership from the start.

Interview

Q: Could you briefly introduce yourself and share how the partnership first took shape?

My name is Dominique Vosters, Business Development & Sales Director at Scalstrm. I’m based in Belgium and closely involved in our partnership with Hypersolid. My role involves commercial and technical discussions and coordinating with our team, which handles operations and integration.

The partnership originated at IBC 2023, when an existing professional relationship reopened the conversation. At the time, Hypersolid was still operating as Triple and running an existing streaming setup, while actively evaluating alternatives. Initial discussions quickly moved beyond introductions into practical exploration, including on-site visits, technical demonstrations, and in-depth technical and commercial conversations around Scalstrm’s approach.

The first real step was testing Scalstrm’s streaming solution with Mediahuis. The feedback was strong, and the results delivered both technically and commercially. That momentum accelerated adoption. Over time, Hypersolid transitioned away from its previous setup entirely and standardised on Scalstrm across deployments, a process that was completed by mid last year. What began as a single rollout has grown into a broader strategic partnership, built on performance, flexibility, and commercial alignment.

Q: How would you summarize Scalstrm’s services?

Scalstrm delivers high-performance video streaming and transcoding solutions designed for scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency. The platform is built to integrate smoothly into complex broadcast and media ecosystems, supporting both origin services and transcoding workflows.

A key strength of Scalstrm’s offering is its performance-driven architecture, combined with analytics-led insights that allow customers and partners to steer and optimize streaming operations effectively. The solutions are designed to handle demanding live and on-demand use cases while remaining flexible enough to adapt to evolving customer requirements.

To get those capabilities into production, a full implementation generally takes about three months. This includes hardware procurement, integration with the customer’s ecosystem, and DRM setup. Within our own environment, deployment can be faster, but the complete cycle is typically around three months.

Q: What are the latest developments within the collaboration and at Scalstrm?

Building on the successful Mediahuis rollout, the partnership has expanded to a broader group of leading media and sports organizations. These include NLZIET, where Scalstrm supports both origin services and live transcoding, as well as Ziggo Sport Totaal.

What stands out is how quickly adoption scaled. The collaboration moved beyond a single deployment into a wider standardisation across platforms, including the replacement of previous streaming infrastructure. At the same time, the scope expanded from origin services into more demanding live transcoding use cases.

In parallel, Scalstrm has continued to invest heavily in performance, reliability, and usability across its transcoding and packaging portfolio. In Q4 2025, the company introduced several improvements, including AV1 codec support, advanced logo and image insertion, and more efficient publishing workflows aimed at simplifying daily operations. These updates were supported by stronger real-time monitoring, improved error recovery, and additional efficiency gains through enhanced VPU hardware acceleration.

On the delivery side, Scalstrm expanded its CDN and Shield capabilities, with improvements in security, smarter caching, dynamic asset handling, and more advanced analytics visualisation. This gives operators more visibility and control over streaming performance.

Looking ahead to 2026, Scalstrm’s roadmap focuses on continued innovation across transcoding, packaging, and delivery, alongside major steps in ad insertion. Planned developments include support for SGAI, FAST channel creation, and the latest workflows for contextual advertising, such as IAB OpenRTB and ARTF. Additional focus areas include broader analytics integration and increased configuration flexibility, reinforcing Scalstrm’s scalability and long-term readiness.

Scalstrm is a powerful platform for high-performance streaming and transcoding, but it is still one part of a much broader ecosystem. At Hypersolid, we take a best-of-breed approach, working with the technologies that fit our clients’ needs and existing landscapes. In the end, it is not about the tooling itself, but about delivering streaming that performs under pressure and keeps improving as audiences, platforms, and expectations evolve.
